Dutch Design Week, Piet Hein Eek Gallery, Eindhoven, the Netherlands
During the Dutch Design Week 2019 has been held a presentation of Vadim Kibardin New Paper Furniture Collection in the Wonderroom Gallery / Piet Hein Eek location. Originally conceived for Dutch Design Week 2014, "Wonder Room" was created as an exhibition space to showcase Eek's collaborations with other designers and artists.
For the first time, Eek also included the work of Czech designer into his exhibition space, curating a selection of lighting by local designers. Eek describes this as “a whole story” and says “This is really what happens in our building. If you’re not trying to focus too hard on the result in advance but just let it happen, often something great happens.”
In 2010 Piet Hein Eek moved his business from Geldrop to Eindhoven, to a former Philips factory. The activities, that already covered the whole process from concept to consumer, were further expanded. This has created a world in which art, culture, handicrafts, gastronomy and much more merge together. The road that was intuitively taken twenty years ago and in which a generalist approach was the guiding principle, has become a crossroads where a world comes together. A world of relationships and connections and of possibilities and impossibilities. Eek created his own world and an important cultural hub in the city of Eindhoven, at times where such initiatives are scarce or have difficulty with keeping their heads above water.
